Glossary heading
Permit
The authorisation the Gaming Commission of Ghana grants an operator, issued for a calendar year and renewed.
Also written: licence, registration, GCSB number, GCCA number
The Commission publishes a list of who is authorised, what kind of operation each one is authorised for, and the dates. Sports betting and online casino are separate authorisations, which is why a single company can appear twice, and why a book can quite legitimately run a casino while the register shows only a sports entry.
What the published register does not carry is numbers. Every permit number on this domain therefore comes from an operator footer, a store listing or a third party, and none of them can honestly be described as verified against the register. Where a book publishes its own number, that beats an affiliate quoting a different one; where several unmatched numbers circulate and nothing corroborates any of them, this index holds the record and prints nothing.
The numbers are year-coded, which is a useful property and a trap. Two digits in the middle of the code encode the year of issue, so a number found in an old capture is not wrong, it is last year's. One entry on this register has carried four different numbers across five years for exactly that reason.
