The cashier, and the ceiling that sits above all of it

Six rails carry betting money in this market and three of them are mobile wallets. The figure that actually stops a large payout is not on any bookmaker’s page: it is the identity tier on the wallet the money is going to, and it is set by the central bank.

Every share on this page is counted against the nine cashiers that could be read rather than against the whole register. Four books publish nothing an outside reader can see, and they are named below rather than dropped: 1xBet, Melbet, 22Bet, Betwinner.

The ceiling on a large win

Set by the Bank of Ghana and in force since 2024-03-01. Three identity levels, each with a limit on what can arrive in a day and what the balance may hold, and a monthly limit at the lowest one that no bookmaker can lift.

Minimum KYC
GH₵3,000 a day, balance up to GH₵5,000. GH₵10,000 a month, and this is the figure that binds: splitting a payout across days does not get round it.
Medium KYC
GH₵15,000 a day, balance up to GH₵40,000. No monthly ceiling at this tier.
Enhanced KYC
GH₵25,000 a day, balance up to GH₵75,000. No monthly ceiling at this tier.

A bookmaker can publish a payout ceiling far above what a wallet at the lowest tier is allowed to receive, and both statements are true at once. The two ways past it are upgrading the wallet, which removes the monthly ceiling entirely, or taking the money to a bank account, which is the one rail the tiers do not touch and the reason a bank row matters in a market where almost nobody deposits that way. Wallet tiers, in the glossary.

The rails

MTN Mobile Money
Carried by 9 of 9 readable cashiers, 100%. Lowest published deposit on this rail: GH₵1.00. A mobile wallet. Acceptance across the register: universal. Named in 9 of the 9 cashiers that could be read.
Telecel Cash
Carried by 9 of 9 readable cashiers, 100%. Still called Vodafone Cash in a great deal of published copy, including some written this year. Lowest published deposit on this rail: GH₵1.00. A mobile wallet. Acceptance across the register: universal. Named in 9 of the 9 cashiers that could be read.
AirtelTigo Money
Carried by 9 of 9 readable cashiers, 100%. Lowest published deposit on this rail: GH₵1.00. A mobile wallet. Acceptance across the register: universal but smallest. Named in 9 of the 9 cashiers that could be read.
Bank transfer
Carried by 1 of 9 readable cashiers, 11%. A bank account. Acceptance across the register: common but secondary. Named in 1 of the 9 cashiers that could be read.
Debit or credit card
Carried by 3 of 9 readable cashiers, 33%. Lowest published deposit on this rail: GH₵1.00. Funding only. No book on this register pays winnings back this way. A payment card. Acceptance across the register: rare, deposit only. Money goes in this way and comes back another.
Cryptocurrency
Carried by 1 of 9 readable cashiers, 11%. A cryptocurrency rail. Acceptance across the register: one licensed casino, absent from every licensed sportsbook. Named in 1 of the 9 cashiers that could be read.

Two facts that belong to the country rather than to a bookmaker

The transfer levy is gone. The electronic transfer levy that used to sit on top of every wallet movement was repealed with effect from 2025-04-02, and charging entities were told to stop deducting it the same day. No government levy sits on a mobile money transfer to or from a betting account today. Anybody reconciling a deposit from before that date against one from after it is looking at a real difference rather than an error.

Money moves between the three networks. A national switch carries transfers across them, so the network a payout lands on is rarely the network it has to stay on. This is the fact most often overstated in writing about this market: it does not let a customer pick a different network at the cashier, because a payout is a disbursement into the wallet the account was registered with. What it does is make the choice of network low-stakes, and it is why the ceiling above, rather than the operator or the telco, is what a large win actually runs into.

What each book publishes about getting money in and out

Three fields, side by side, in index order. The withdrawal column is the thinnest in the whole publication and that is not an accident: it is the figure most often carried over from another country’s help page with the currency swapped, so most records refuse to state one.

Book Smallest deposit Smallest withdrawal Cash out time as published
1xBet GH₵15 not filed 3 hours
22Bet GH₵10 not filed 1 hours
Bangbet GH₵20 not filed 1.5 hours
BetFox GH₵1.00 GH₵2.00 15 minutes
betPawa GH₵1.00 not filed 10 minutes
Betway not filed not filed 5 minutes
Betwinner GH₵12 not filed 20 minutes
Melbet GH₵7.00 not filed 1.5 hours
MSport GH₵1.00 not filed 45 minutes
Premier Bet No deposit No withdrawal No online cash out
Soccabet GH₵5.00 not filed 8 minutes
SportyBet GH₵1.00 GH₵1.00 2 minutes
Wiwi Casino GH₵1.00 GH₵1.00 5 minutes

Nobody working on this index has moved money at any of these books. Every figure in the third column is a published claim, and where the fact base marks one as chosen rather than read, the entry says so. The cash out thread carries the same cells with the provenance on each.

The three wallets

MTN held 72.51% of Ghanaian mobile voice subscriptions, NCA June 2026 Carried by 9 of 9 readable cashiers. That share is voice subscriptions rather than wallet accounts, and the two are not the same number.
Telecel Cash
Telecel held 20.72% of Ghanaian mobile voice subscriptions, NCA June 2026 Carried by 9 of 9 readable cashiers. That share is voice subscriptions rather than wallet accounts, and the two are not the same number.
AirtelTigo Money
AT held 6.77% of Ghanaian mobile voice subscriptions, NCA June 2026 Carried by 9 of 9 readable cashiers. That share is voice subscriptions rather than wallet accounts, and the two are not the same number.

Questions this shelf gets asked

What is the maximum I can withdraw from a betting site in Ghana?
Two ceilings apply and the lower one wins. The bookmaker publishes its own, and several of them are in the hundreds of thousands of cedis. The wallet the money is going to has its own, set by the Bank of Ghana: at the lowest identity tier that is GH₵3,000 in a day and GH₵10,000 in a month. The monthly one is the one people run into, and no bookmaker can lift it.
Is there still a tax on mobile money transfers in Ghana?
No. The electronic transfer levy was repealed on 2 April 2025 and charging entities were told to stop deducting it the same day. Anything taken after that date was refundable. No government levy sits on a mobile money transfer today.
Why do so few of these books publish a minimum withdrawal?
Several publish nothing, and several more have figures circulating that trace back to a help page written for another country with the currency changed. Where a number cannot be attributed to the operator or to a source that looked at Ghana, this index leaves the cell unfiled rather than repeating it, because a withdrawal minimum is a figure a reader acts on.
Can I deposit by card and withdraw to it?
A couple of books on this register take cards to fund an account. None of them was found paying winnings back to one: payouts revert to mobile money or to a bank. The constraint comes from the card schemes rather than from Ghanaian regulation, which is why it varies by acquirer rather than by bookmaker.
